CableQuip is owned by Adam Craven-Sands, an experienced and qualified Mechanic and Fitter Turner Machinist with a passion for innovating the brake cable manufacturing industry. Adam identified the need to be able to custom make cables and cable parts, when he was still a youngster, with a XA Falcon Coupe. After fitting a 9-inch disc brake rear end, he couldn’t get a handbrake cable to fit the diff as the one he had was out of a sedan. He couldn’t even find anyone who could shorten it. The story ended there but years later, when he was a partner in a brake specialist business in Cairns, he remembered the need to custom-make mechanical cables and cable components.
So, he set out to design and develop a machine giving him the functionality to manufacture cables in-house. There were a few requirements up front; it had to be easy to use with the ability to change dies quickly. After tinkering around and making some design modifications along the way, a compact machine was made which delivered on all of its needs. From the initial unit, the machining and design needs changed a few times, to accommodate supply and demand issues, and in 2007 the CableQuip CQ07T Crimping and Testing Machine was launched.

CableQuip’s first OEM cable supply contract came in 2011, which enabled new cables to be supplied to a vehicle manufacturer for fitting to new vehicles being built in Australia. This OEM cable supply contract was a joint effort between the vehicle manufacturer, CableQuip and one of its customers located close to the vehicle manufacturer’s factory. “This was in-line with our core business practice, that CableQuip’s main function is the design, develop and supply of cables and fittings, and that it is CableQuip’s customers that actually make cables,” explained Adam.
“This gave CableQuip the ability to supply fittings that are moderately popular, and also make custom fittings. Should a particular fitting that is not in our existing range suddenly become popular, we can have it on the shelf and in the catalogue system within days, sometimes on the same day. We also joined the ‘Made in Australia’ campaign,” Adam says. “I’m proud to make things in Australia, even though it is increasingly hard to keep it cost effective.” For more information on CableQuip, our skills, machines and capabilities, contact us on 0410 151 241
